Specialist Physiotherapist in Complex Medicine/ Intermediate Care Unit

Department: Therapies

Band  6   £35,392 - £42,618 per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The Complex Medical Team is currently seeking to recruit a skilled Band 6 Physiotherapist. This team is welcoming and dedicated to delivering comprehensive assessments and care for the frail population within the hospital. Focusing on supporting the transition from an acute medical ward to home with the appropriate support in place.

We are in search of a dynamic individual with experience in the community field, general medicine, or frailty to contribute their expertise in specialist assessments and treatments as integral members of a multidisciplinary team. 

Applicants must possess current HCPC registration and recognised qualifications as an Physiotherapist.

The suitable candidate will require a reablement and home first approach to promote independence and prevent deconditioning. You will be expected to delegate to therapy support workers to support with the progression of patient centred goals for discharge and onward community based therapy programmes.

Successful candidates should be highly motivated, flexible, and innovative, with excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team is crucial. Additionally, candidates will be responsible for supervising and training junior therapy staff and assistants.

Additionally, we will support the successful applicant to attend our newly developed MSc Frailty module in collaboration with Northampton University. Support from our dedicated Therapy Practice Development team will also be provided.

Clinical

  • To be professional and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care
  • To undertake Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments for patients, including those with a complex presentation, using advanced investigative and analytical skills and to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care and signpost to other specialist or services revaluating as appropriate

Professional

  • To comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Code of Members’ Professional Values and Behaviour
  • To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through continuing professional development ( CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate, as necessary, in your work. Maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development

Organisational 

  • To be responsible for the supervision and co-ordination of junior staff, assistants and student on a daily bases in conjunction with the team leader
  • To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision, meet the required professional standards of practise

Qualifications and knowledge

  • Physiotherapy Degree
  • Registered with UK Health Centre Professions Council
  • Evidence of post registration CPD relating to frailty and/or intermediate care
  • Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge of Physiotherapy best practice for a range of conditions

  • Membership of CSP
  • Membership of Specialist Interest Groups
  • Awareness of NHS and Trust systems, policies, procedures and current changes

Experience

  • Relevant experience in a hospital setting
  • Completed core rotations in Outpatients/Orthopaedics/Neurology/ Respiratory/ Medicine & Surgery
  • Experience in a community setting and or complex medical wards
  • Supervision and training of assistants, junior members of staff and students
  • Able to independently manage caseload to include complex patients
