We're thrilled to announce a rare career development opportunity for a talented pharmacist with a passion for cancer care. We're on the lookout for an exceptional band 7 Specialist Pharmacists for Cancer Services to join our pharmacy service.

As a key player, you'll join a specialized team providing clinical and pharmaceutical support to our Haematology and Oncology units, contributing significantly to the overall mission of our Pharmacy Cancer service.

What You'll Do: 
Partnering with Specialist Pharmacists for Cancer Services, you'll spearhead the management of all medication needs for our Oncology and Haematology patients. Your responsibilities include delivering ward-based clinical pharmacy services, supporting the cancer centre pharmacy, and seizing opportunities to mentor junior staff. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to dive into quality improvement, lead audit initiatives, and champion medicines optimization and safety.

To support the Cancer CSU in delivering a consistently high-quality patient care and pharmacy service. 

To facilitate and support the efficient and cost-effective use of medicines within Cancer CSU

To comply with Trust and Pharmacy Procedures, Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Risk Management.

Why Us: 
Be part of a collaborative dream team comprising experienced pharmacists, dedicated pharmacy technicians, and an expansive pharmacy network. Your pivotal role will shape and enhance pharmaceutical services for cancer patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

To practice in compliance with the General Pharmaceutical Council code of professional conduct within scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for own decisions, actions, and omissions.

To demonstrate a critical understanding of broadened level of responsibility and autonomy and within the limits of own competence and professional scope of practice, including when working with complexity, risk, uncertainty, and incomplete information.

To assist the Accountable Pharmacist in the provision and development of technical and aseptic services within the trust.  Main duties will include:

  • To train as an authorised Pharmacist to check and release made and/or dispensed chemotherapy items from the aseptic unit. 
  • To comply with Standard operating procedures to maintain a high-quality environment for making aseptic products.

To contribute to the planning and future development of all aspects of haematology, oncology and aseptic services at Milton Keynes General Hospital.

To support the agreed strategy, aims and objectives for provision of pharmacy services liaising with both pharmacy and directorate teams.

To contribute to the departmental education & training programme.  Main duties will include:

·         Assisting with the competency-based training of junior pharmacy staff

·         Contributing to the development of training packages for junior staff

·         Participating in the departmental teaching commitments

·         To contribute to the training of pharmacy, medical, nursing staff and other healthcare workers.

·         To contribute to the ward-based training of pre-registration  pharmacists and pre-registration technicians

Qualifications and knowledge

  • Registered Pharmacist with GPhC
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of CPD (in line with GPhC requirements)

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
