As the Governance lead for medication within UHBW you will interact and provide expert guidance to a range of staff from all professional groups across the Trust.  Working closely with and supporting the Director of Pharmacy.

As part of the future strategy for clinical services in Bristol and Weston, UHBW and NBT have joined to form a Hospitals Group.  This job will provide the vital role of Medication Safety Officer (MSO) across the Hospitals Group, ensuring a consistent and collaborative approach is taken within the medication safety agenda.

UHBW is a Large Acute Trust, providing a range of secondary and tertiary services across the South West and beyond.  It has a well established and highly regarded pharmacy team of over 350 staff, providing a range of clinical services across many pathways from tertiary paediatics to exemplar frailty teams.  UHBW also has significant aseptics facilities providing chemotherapy to our tertiary Cancer hospital, Licensed Radiopharmacy and Specials Production Units.

NBT employs over 12,000 staff providing healthcare to the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset from our award-winning hospital building at Southmead. We are the regional Major Trauma Centre, and an internationally recognised centre of excellence in a range of services and major specialities. The pharmacy department consist of over 250 team members and provides a clinical service across the Trust with many highly specialist posts & pharmacist-led clinics.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To lead on all aspects of medication safety and governance, providing highly specialised pharmaceutical advice relating to the safer use of medicines within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
  • To act as the Medication Safety Officer for UHBW and North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) as part of the Hospitals Group relationship, implementing and co-ordinating national patient safety alerts and improvement strategies.
  • To lead on UHBW’s compliance with national standards (e.g. Care Quality Commission) relating to safer medicines management.
  • To work without supervision, be self-motivated and self-directed in between regular supervisory meetings. Develop detailed project plans and manage their implementation, either directly or by coordinating the actions of others.
