Job overview
We are looking for an experienced physiotherapist to join our Rheumatology and MSK teams . The role is split 50:50 between rheumatology and MSK.
The role will involve working a 4-day working pattern in outpatients . The post will involve weekend working on the trauma and orthopaedic wards as part of your contracted hours; one weekend day, alternating Saturday and Sunday every four weeks.
Main duties of the job
Rheumatology:
The post holder will have the experience and skills to manage patients with a long-term condition, providing therapeutic care as well as education on specific conditions. They will be able to offer self-management strategies appropriate for inflammatory conditions such as Spondyloarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis, bone diseases such as Osteoporosis, connective tissue disorders and long-term musculoskeletal problems such as hypermobility syndrome.
There will be the opportunity to assess newly diagnosed patients, run education and exercise groups, take part in Axial Spondyloarthritis yearly review clinics and manage patients within hydrotherapy.
MSK:
Working within the MSK team you would be able to assess and treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions referred from general practice, A&E, musculoskeletal interface services as well as post-operative pathways.
You would have the opportunity to mentor members of the team in Band 5 roles and below, facilitate with student supervision and take part in delivery of IST.
Whilst your role will be predominantly based at Southmead Hospital you may be asked to work off site, for example at Cossham Hospital, which is a North Bristol Trust community site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Joining the Rheumatology team, you would work within a multi-disciplinary team including consultants, specialist nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, physiotherapists and physiotherapy rehabilitation technicians. Our aim is to provide excellent care for our rheumatology patients, ensuring they are well equipped to manage their long-term conditions.
The MSK team work alongside rheumatology therapies as well as the wider highly skilled outpatient physiotherapy team, including hydrotherapy, hand therapy, pelvic health, cancer therapy, neurological and vestibular.
Patients have the opportunity to be managed through 1:1 physiotherapy, exercise and education classes such as Escape Pain and Back Pain management, gym therapy with highly skilled physio technicians as well as hydrotherapy in our on site pool.
You would have the opportunity to mentor members of the team in Band 5 roles and below, facilitate with student supervision and take part in delivery of IST.

Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in physiotherapy
- HCPC registered physiotherapist
- Evidence of regular CPD
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- A wide range of undergraduate and post graduate physiotherapy experience –with some post graduate MSK outpatient experience
- Experience in mentoring
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and or MDT in the NHS
- Experience in organising and managing own workload and delegating responsibilities as appropriate
- Experience of performing physiotherapeutic examination and assessment of patients with MSK presentations,
- Experience of developing and delivering an individualised treatment programme for a wide range of complex patients
- Experience of maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects professional and personal development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with Rheumatological and/or long-term conditions
- Experience of supervising junior staff, support staff and students
- Experience of participating in service development including participation in audit
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Confident In using IT systems
- Knowledge of MSK conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience in providing training to staff members
- Knowledge of Rheumatology, inflammatory and chronic pain conditions
