Job overview

 Due to service review, we are seeking a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within our close-knit and friendly team of therapists. 

 We have an opportunity for a competent Dysphagia practitioner to join our skilled team. 

 This role will be primarily focused on early assessment and intervention of communication and swallowing needs on AMU and urgent care areas but will also work in other acute wards, supporting the wider caseload. 

 The successful candidate will be responsible for leading change in the service, becoming an integral member of the urgent care teams, developing education and training to the wider Multidisciplinary team to ensure referrals into Speech and Language Therapy are both timely and appropriate.

We have established teams in Acute, Stroke, Critical Care and Head and Neck Cancer as well as significant specialist clinical knowledge and clinics for Video fluoroscopy and FEES, with opportunities to develop in this area if desired.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses
  • Post graduate dysphagia training internal or external course
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in specialist area or working towards higher education learning
  • Practice Educators qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate dysphagia experience and ability to manage complex cases independently
  • Experience of managing highly complex cases
  • Experience of multi disciplinary working
  • Extensive relevant clinical experience at post graduate level
  • Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses
  • Relevant post-graduate clinical work and CPD at a senior level
  • Commitment to personal and team development
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership Training
  • Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate students
  • Experience of audit and research
