Pathology Quality Manager

Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a conscientious experienced Biomedical Scientist who has considerable operational experience of managing a Quality Management system and working closely with staff at all levels to help embed a quality ethos.

The Quality Manager is an integral part of the overall Pathology Laboratory management team. They will be responsible for the implementation, development and co-ordination of the quality management system for all pathology disciplines on both the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Birmingham Women’s Hospital sites.

Through the processes they control and develop, the Quality Manager will be expected to provide the reassurances required ensuring that clinical governance and risk management within Pathology is controlled and compliant. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual with excellent attention to detail. They will have excellent communication & interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work with staff at all levels both internal and external to the organisation. You will be able to work as part of a team and understand how vital maintaining good staff/ customer relationships and providing high levels of service are in a pathology laboratory environment.

You will have substantial experience of operating a Quality Management System including undertaking audits and document control processes. Having had a significant role in the lead up to, and during, an accreditation inspection against international standards will be an advantage.

The hours are full time, notionally between 08:30 and 17:00 Monday to Friday, and the position is permanent.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Master’s level or equivalent knowledge and competency. FIBMS or MSc in appropriate scientific degree
  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
  • State registration as Biomedical Scientist with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Qualification

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Tools, Risk Management, Lean Techniques
  • Knowledge and practical experience of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices
  • Knowledge of Q-Pulse or similar quality management software
  • Able to demonstrate extensive knowledge surrounding Root Cause Analysis
  • Knowledge of current professional and NHS issues
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective Quality Management Systems
  • Experience of monitoring compliance with national risk management / quality standards
  • Experience of writing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Experience of working within clinical laboratories
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of coaching or facilitating the learning and development of others
  • Experience of service development and implementing change
  • Experience of project management
