Band 8A Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Acute Oncology

This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in Acute Oncology role at Band 8a, is a full-time, 1 year maternity cover position within the Berkshire Cancer Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity to deliver advanced nursing practice and enhance clinical effectiveness in the Acute Oncology Service.

The ANP will demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach while ensuring patient and carer involvement in care plans and service development.  

This role requires a flexible approach to work and adherence to professional and regulatory standards, contributing to a safe and effective healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job

To providing acute oncology nursing services, conducting independent assessments and clinical decision-making, coordinating services across emergency pathways, and managing oncological emergencies.

A focus on clinical excellence, service development, and education within oncology care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant first degree
  • Masters degree essential or evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience to masters level
  • Advanced assessment skills course
  • Demonstration of knowledge of strategic and national issues pertinent to Acute Oncology
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate diploma in education
  • Nurse prescribing course
  • Care of the patient receiving chemotherapy short course or equivalent
  • Advanced communication skills course
  • Competent chemotherapy practitioner

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of assessing and planning care for patients with issues related to cancer and its treatment.
  • Experience in working autonomously in delivering independent assessment, clinical examination, clinical decision making, diagnosis, planning of care and treatment. This should be at Band 7 or above
  • Competent at assessing and diagnosing inpatients with cancer and treatment related emergencies
