A unique opportunity has been created by the Pharmacy Senior Leadership team for an enthusiastic, inspirational and highly motivated leader to join the team to help shape and grow our  dynamic pharmacy team. This role has a specific responsibility for being the Pharmacy Technician professional and operational lead on aspects of the pharmacy service alongside providing strategic professional leadership to the cross-site pharmacy department and off-site services

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a track record of providing vision and excellent leadership as we collectively deliver on our strategies.

Main duties of the job

  1. To be part of the Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team (PSLT) with specific responsibility for being the Pharmacy Technician professional and operational lead on aspects of the pharmacy service alongside providing strategic professional leadership to the cross-site pharmacy department and off-site services
  2. To support the Chief Pharmacist and site Head of Pharmacy in the strategic operational planning and delivery of the Pharmacy Medicines Supply Chain strategy and the wider Pharmacy and Trust Integration Strategy
  3. To ensure that all relevant standards are met in the provision of the Pharmacy service.
  4. To act as a professional lead for all members of the Pharmacy department with a specific focus on pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants
  5. To provide professional advice to internal and external stakeholders on the role and contribution of pharmacy technicians as a registered profession as part of workforce development, reform and legislation changes, to enable effective skill mix and clinical/technical service development within the trust and ICB
  6. To deputise for members of the Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team as appropriate
  7. To actively demonstrate the Trust THRIVE values, supporting staff through a mixture of teaching, coaching and mentoring techniques for professional development and championing the Pharmacy Forum (staff voice) to promote continually improve culture and morale

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • GPhC approved or recognised course/qualification e.g. NVQ level 3
  • • Registration with the GPhC
  • • Evidence of accreditation for Pre- and In-Process Checking (PIPC) / clinical Medicines Management (MMT) or relevant advanced pharmacy technician competency framework
  • • Leadership or Management qualification
Desirable criteria
  • • Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) learning and development programme or equivalent experience
  • • ACPT accreditation
  • • Prince 2 or Project Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
  • • Experience of managing and delivering complex services through a team approach
  • • Experience of leading, managing and empowering staff to deliver change
  • • Experience of project management initiation and delivery at pace and within budget
  • • Experience in provision of medicine usage and expenditure reports and use of financial reports to influence business cases and clinical practice
  • • Experience of SOP development, risk management / Quality Management System approval process
  • • Ability to work accurately under pressure and to manage time effectively, working to deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • • Presentation to Trust-wide meetings (or equivalent)
  • • Leading projects across departmental boundaries
  • • Experience of working at a strategic level across the wider health community
  • • Experience of working at a strategic level with senior clinicians / managers and experience of working in an integrated directorate team

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrates innovation
  • • Demonstrates a whole system patient focused approach to work
  • • Experience in proposing and delivering Cost Improvement Strategies / Transformation projects
  • • Experience of leading on audits of service and implementation of action plans to resolve gaps
  • • Experience of successful management of a team of staff
