Job overview

The South East Region is recruiting an Assistant Director for Digitisation to lead large digitally enabled change programmes to the frontline NHS, including oversight of electronic patient records deployments across multiple providers and digitalising imaging and pathology services across complex diagnostic networks.

Suitable applicants will demonstrate a track record in leading complex multi-million pound and sometimes contentious change and transformation at significant scale in the NHS coupled with the ability to go beyond implementation to achieve successful and sustained adoption and benefits realisation.

You will work as part of a dynamic regional team with strong influencing and negotiating skills in order to broker best value for the six Integrated Care Systems (ICS’s) and the diagnostic networks in partnership with national colleagues and the supplier community.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for facilitating and assuring delivery of digitally enabled transformation across the region through specific areas of work: - 

  1. Consolidate business cases across all pathology networks and ensure that they have a plan to replace the LIMS systems across all secondary care settings
  2. Support the national roll-out of Digital Pathology capability
  3. Secure investment in Image Sharing platforms to support Imaging Network implementation and have the technology solutions they require
  4. Work with the national frontline digitisation programme team to provide regional assurance and oversight to the frontline digitisation programme across the South East
  5. Facilitating the national roll-out of Home Reporting for diagnostic radiology to maximise and optimise the workforce.
  6. Work with the National DMA team to ensure that all ICSs, Providers, and care complete their DMA surveys. Providing assurance and a point of contact
  7. Working with ICBs to develop programmes of work to collaborate on digital productivity.
  8. Support the roll out of EPRs to ensure that all trust have an EPR across the SE, that s affordable and aligns to the national convergence approach.
  9. National roll-out of clinical decision support (iRefer) embedded within electronic order comms workflow in primary and secondary care

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

10. Reviewing of Imaging and pathology data standards

11. Ensure that there is a roadmap to achieve digitisation of                            Histopathology and work in place to develop a Pathology Network approved Digital Pathology business case.

12. Ensure the matrix working of the Regional Digital Transformation teams are mobilised to support the ICBs to deliver the digital change needed.

We are looking are an individual that has the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of working as a senior digital professional within a Trust or ICB
  • Experience of delivering large scale digital change programmes either in Frontline such as EPRs or Diagnostic such as LIMs, PACs or RIS
  • Comprehensive understanding of the digital maturity needs for ICBs and providers
  • Experience of working with National and or Regional transformation or digital teams and the budgetary processes
  • Applicants for this highly specialist role will be educated to master’s level or have equivalent experience of working at a senior level in a specialist area such as diagnostics or digital transformation in secondary care.
  • Applicants will have demonstrable knowledge of deploying digital diagnostic systems such as LIMs, PACs or RIS or have extensive experience in deploying frontline systems such as EPRs, EPMA or e-Noting.
  • It would be desirable if the applicant has knowledge of supporting both areas of digital diagnostic and Frontline digital systems in a secondary care setting.
  • Applicants will have and understanding of how secondary care systems interoperability and knowledge of the key data standards that are needed. experience of working with NHS suppliers and National NHS teams in all aspects of the training, deployment, governance, risk management and expertise in robust assurance functions

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area with Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification
  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to large politically sensitive programmes, diagnostics, digital transformation
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and prioritising a large budget with solid working knowledge of financial process requirements.
  • Skills in complex business case development and stakeholder engagement at regional level and with experience in working with national teams in the NHS to translate and deliver policy change
  • High level analytical skills and the ability to draw qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources and present in a clear concise manner
  • Member of relevant professional body (CHIME, British Computer Society, FEDIP Practioner)
