Job overview

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced MRI radiographer to join our friendly, dynamic team and be part of our exciting project to redevelop our MRI service. We have just completed our new department refurbishment and installed Philips 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners at The Royal Surrey. We have also commenced a further project to increase our scanning capacity in the community.

Previous cardiac and 3T experience is preferred. Patient safety is our priority and applicants will be expected to demonstrate a sound knowledge of MRI safety and physics. 

The post holder will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a caring and professional attitude.

Main duties of the job

The MRI radiographers provide an exceptionally high-quality MR service to patients and take an active role in the training & development of junior colleagues and students. 

We cover a very wide portfolio of scans from paediatrics and cardiac, small bowel imaging through to MSK.  We do our own protocolling of patient forms and also request and report our own IOFB x-rays. 

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo some formal in-house training in MRI as appropriate and cannulation training if not already experienced in this. We all participate in the departmental CPD programme

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Perform MRI Scans, unsupervised and to a very high standard. Provide an efficient and responsive service to patients and users of the service.
  • Supervise senior radiographers in MRI scanner, train and support junior radiographers and support ancillary staff and students, as required.
  • Promote excellent working relations with staff across the Trust.
  • To effectively contribute towards the delivery of a patient focused service.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold an appropriate professional qualification recognised by the college of radiographers – D.C.R or BSc in diagnostic radiography (3 year f/t degree).
  • Registered with HCPC .
  • Portfolio with evidence of CPD.
  • Certificate in competence in administering IV injections, or willingness to undertake.
Desirable criteria
  • Attend specialist short courses/seminars.
  • Post graduate certificate in MRI or equivalent experience.
  • Certificate in competence in interpreting IOFB radiographs.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience at senior radiographer grade.
  • Significant Experience MR scanning.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Cardiac MRI.
  • Knowledge of CR, PACS and RIS systems
  • A thorough knowledge of MR developments
  • Knowledge of local and National targets
  • Experience on 3T
  • Experience in standard setting/audit
  • Has undertaken audit projects and acted on findings
  • Significant experience of performing independently a range of MR examinations of the whole body
